Fast start carries Stillwater girls

Morgan Paolini had 16 points, five rebounds and three steals as the Stillwater Christian Cougars downed visiting Eureka 48-34 on Tuesday night.

Samantha Red Elk chipped in with 12 points and Jordan Danz contributed 11 to the Cougar effort. Danz also had five assists and four steals.

The Cougars (8-1) narrowly defeated Eureka before Christmas.

"We came out ready for a tough game," said Stillwater coach Denise Topp.

"The girls played tenacious defense. It was a great team effort. Everyone came together, doing their jobs and working as a unit," she added.

Stillwater got off to a fast start, outscoring the Lions 15-6 in the first quarter. Eureka bounced back in the second period, cutting the Stillwater lead to 25-20 at the half.

It was the Cougars who came out of the locker room ready for the third quarter, outscoring Eureka 14-4 to take a commanding 39-24 advantage.

Alex Holland was Eureka's top scorer, tallying seven points.
