Robert Lee 'Bob' Lindborg, 85

Robert Lee “Bob” Lindborg, 85, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Kalispell, with his wife and son by his side.

He was born on Feb. 22, 1926, to Carl Johan and Hilma (Lahtinen) Lindborg.

After graduation from Missoula High School, he enlisted into the Army Air Force. After his time in the service as a gunner, he attended Choinard Art School in Los Angeles, then attended and graduated from the University of Montana in Missoula. He always said he majored in “yearbook.” While he was in the service he drew cartoons for the camp paper. Later he did cartoons for the veterans’ edition of “Army Times” and the “Montana Farmer.”

During his university years he worked summers for the Forest Service in Idaho and continued to do that when he worked for Superior Publishing in Seattle as an artist. He treasured his memories of the Forest Service and Round Top and the friendships that were established during those years.

After Superior Publishing he went to Des Moines, Iowa, where he worked for three years for Meredith Publishing Company (publishers of Better Homes and Gardens).

Bob married Myra Marjerison Gamett on Oct. 22, 1960, becoming father to her son, Howard Gamett. They moved to St. Paul, Minn., in November 1960. They had a son, Lee Robert, born in 1962 in St. Paul.

Bob worked for an advertising agency in St. Paul for two years, before coming back to Montana in 1962 where he was with Wendt Advertising in Great Falls for 29 years as an art director. When the opportunity arose, he and Stan Meyer bought the agency. The agency thrived under their leadership.

Bob retired in 1991 and he and Myra moved to Bigfork, back into the mountains they both loved. The first project there was helping Lee build an annex for Bob's studio and Myra’s sewing room. Bob enjoyed his life in Bigfork where he had time to do his watercolor painting and other pursuits. He assisted with the Montana Watercolor Society annual exhibit, designing and producing the printed materials needed for that.

He was preceded in death by his stepson, Howard Gamett.

He is survived by his wife, Myra, at the home in Bigfork; son, Lee Lindborg, and wife, Debbie, of Plains; a granddaughter, Kendra Gamett, of Havre; a sister, Alice Zakos, of Seattle; a brother, Richard Lindborg, of Missoula; and nephews and niece in whose progress he always expressed interest.

Memorial services for Bob will be held at a later date.
