Music continues in Bigfork series

| July 4, 2012 6:30 PM

The Riverbend Concert Association’s summer series continues in July in Bigfork.

Artists come from all over Montana and the West to perform at Everit L. Sliter Park at 7 p.m. Sundays throughout the summer.

This month’s lineup includes:

• July 8 — Classy Coyote Band

The new Classy Coyote Band was formed when Kerry and Michele Cosner asked Doyle Wells and Jim Adler to add their musical know-how to the Coyote’s popular down-home style. Kerry and Michele have performed at various local venues since 2006, and veteran bassist and percussionist Doyle Wells joined the lineup in 2011. This year, Jim Andler, well-known local drummer, became part of the group.

The band plays a variety of music, with styles ranging from jazz standards to country classics and even some original compositions.

• July 15 — Don Lawrence Orchestra

Now led by Don Lawrence’s son, Dave, the big band orchestra’s bright spirit shines on, and this 16-member band, complete with trumpets, trombones, saxes and a rhythm section, continues to delight Riverbend audiences as it has for more than 20 years.

Famous bands of the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s will live again when the orchestra plays in the styles of Glen Miller, the Dorsey brothers, Duke Ellington and other famous bands of those decades.

• July 22 — The Cantrells

The Cantrells have been touring and performing their original folk and bluegrass music in concerts and festivals since 1985. Their performances feature Emily Cantrell’s songs and strong rhythm guitar and Al Cantrell’s contest-winning fiddling in traditional, swing and Irish styles. The duo features harmonies and a variety of tunes ranging from traditional bluegrass to Broadway musicals.

• July 29 — Cocinando

The band brings Latin rhythms and musical fun to the park on the last weekend in July. “Cocinando” means “cooking” in Spanish, and the appeal of this sizzling music, a combination of bebop, jazz, Afro-Cuban and other Latin American rhythms, cuts across a wide range of ages and enthusiasms.

Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children and $20 for season passes. Guests bring their own seating, bug spray and, frequently, a picnic lunch.
