It was a monumental day for the Mission Valley Mariners A American Legion baseball team.

The Mariners rallied with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Anacortes, Wash., 8-7 in the championship game of the John R. Harp Tournament at Griffin Field on Sunday.

It was the third tournament title of the season for the Mariners (first at the Dillon Tournament and 3-0 at the Ranger Round Robin Tournament). The Mariners were denied a tournament trophy by rain at their Firecracker Tournament earlier this month.

The victory also put the Mariners at 40-4 on the season.

“We’ve had a lot,” Mariners coach Jami Hanson said of come-from-behind wins. “The kids believe it’s not over until the final out. I don’t like to be in that situation a lot, but they believe they can come back and play.”

Hanson said the heads were drooping after several missed scoring opportunities through six innings.

“But they got on base (after that) and did what they had to do to score runs,” he said.

In the bottom of the seventh, Justin Evertz started things off with a walk. Zeke Webster-Yaqui singled and Robbie Gauthier walked to load the bases.

A throwing error on a routine grounder to short opened the door for Mission Valley as two runners scored.

After another run tied it, Michael Bournstein walked with the bases loaded to win it.

LEWISTON, Idaho — Libby drew first blood with an RBI single by Micah Germany in the top half of the first inning, but the Lewis-Clark Cubs came right back with 13 runs in the bottom half of the inning to blow it open on the final day of the Clancy Ellis Memorial Tournament at Lewis-Clark State College.

That semifinal win pushed Lewis-Clark into the championship game versus Hyrum, Utah.

The Cubs rallied past Libby 12-10 late Saturday in the final game of pool play.

The Loggers, who tied Hyrum 5-5 in eight innings, were 2-2-1 in the tournament.

Overall Libby is 20-19 on the season.

Libby hosts the Kalispell Lakers A tonight at 5:05 for a rescheduled conference doubleheader.
