Errors cost Lakers in loss to Missoula
The Kalispell Lakers AA fumbled away a chance to win the season series against Western AA leading Missoula on Tuesday, committing seven errors in an 11-6 loss at Griffin Field.
The Lakers got off to a poor start, giving up six runs in the first three innings. Kalispell got back in the game with back to back two-run innings in the third and fourth, but couldn’t hold on, giving up three runs in the next two innings, just one of them earned.
“It was a great opportunity to win the five-game series against the conference leaders,” Lakers coach Ryan Malmin said. “We didn’t compete defensively like we have or like we should.”
Outside of the errors the Lakers played well. Dillon Matteson hit in three runs and the Lakers had a total of 10 hits. Adam Frandsen pitched 4 2/3 innings and didn’t give up an earned run in relief.
The Lakers, now 7-8 in conference and 23-18 overall, host Lethbridge in a conference doubleheader this afternoon.
