WHITEFISH — Sidney’s Katelyn Frank and Whitefish Lake’s own Kathy Dodd led after the first day of the Montana State Women’s Golf Association State Amateur and Senior Amateur tournaments on Tuesday at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.
Frank holds a one stroke lead in the amateur division with a first round 73, with eight golfers within four strokes. Whitefish’s Chelsea Ray is the top local golfer in the competition, opening with a round of 77.
The senior tournament is led by three local golfers. Dodd owns a one stroke lead after the first day, shooting a 79, but is trailed closely by Whitefish Lake’s Jody Fee (80) and Buffalo Hill’s Wendy Madison (81). A total of nine of the top 19 golfers came from local courses, with Village Greens’ Mary Kruse, Buffalo Hill’s Paula Pervais and Whitefish Lake’s Linda Ray all shooting an 88 to sit in 15th place and Whitefish Lake’s Kimmi Bouma and Tracey Whisenand and Buffalo Hill’s Sherri Sonju shooting a 90 to place 19th.
