Audition for Glacier Chorale

| July 18, 2012 6:00 PM

James Stanard, director of the Glacier Chorale, will hold auditions for prospective new singers in the chorale and symphony’s upcoming performance of Beethoven’s “Ninth Symphony.”

The performance will take place Nov. 17 and 18 at the Flathead High School auditorium.

Auditions for extra positions with the Beethoven chorus, as well as for new permanent Glacier Chorale singers, will be held Aug. 4.

The Beethoven piece requires a larger number of singers, Stanard explained in a news release.

“For the concert, the 70-voice Glacier Chorale will be augmented with an additional 20 to 25 singers from our local community who will join with the Glacier Symphony and the four internationally renowned soloists to perform ‘Ode to Joy,’ which is the climatic conclusion of the four movement work.

“As the cornerstone of the Glacier Symphony and Chorale’s 30th season, this lavish and thrilling production of the iconic Beethoven ‘Ninth Symphony’ will be presented featuring massive choral and orchestral forces. It will feature four stellar vocal soloists, including Metropolitan Opera tenor Raul Melo, all under the direction of Maestro John Zoltek,” he added.

Singers with strong voices and solid musicianship skills are preferred. Those chosen will need to be available to rehearse with the chorale on Thursday evenings from 7 to 10 p.m., starting Sept. 27 and continuing until the mid-November performances.

Those interested should contact Stanard by email at jstanard@me.com to reserve an audition time. This is the only day auditions will be held.
