It's 'Rally' time for classic cars, cycles
The Glacier Rally in the Rockies classic car and motorcycle show kicks off Friday in Kalispell.
Flathead CARE, in association with the Glacier Street Rod Association, have joined forces to coordinate a full weekend of activities.
The event begins with a Garage Tour and Poker Run on Friday morning from 7 to 9 a.m. beginning at RT’s Rod Shop, located at 747 Center St. W. A show and shine Friday afternoon at Kalispell’s Dairy Queen, 19 Idaho St. from 6 to 8 p.m. will continue into the evening with an American Graffiti-style “Cruise the Drag” up and down Main Street from 8 to 10 p.m. People are encouraged to line Main Street and cheer for the cars as they drag Main Street.
On Saturday the parade begins at 10 a.m. with a “High-heel-a-thon race down Main Street sponsored by the Kalispell Soroptimist Club. Cars and motorcycles will then follow the normal parade route lining up on Eighth Street West (at the Flathead High School parking lot on Eighth Street and Fifth Avenue West) and continuing north on Main Street to Center Street.
After the parade classic vehicles 1975 and older and motorcycles of all years will park on First Avenue West and in the bank parking lots between Center Street and Third Street for the show and shine. Food and drink concessions will be available in the alley behind Norm’s News. There will be drawings, a walking poker run, prizes donated by area businesses and other special activities for registered participants. More than 30 awards will be given out to show participants.
All car and motorcycle parade and show events are free to the public. Concessions and vehicle registration proceeds will benefit Flathead CARE, a local youth drug, alcohol and tobacco prevention organization.
On Saturday evening, Glacier Street Rod Association will hold a catered dinner on the lawn at Foy’s Lake starting at 6 p.m. for those with vehicles at least 40 old. Following the dinner will be results for the Friday poker run, American Graffiti Cruise awards, candle log burning, campfire, and lots of visiting. Tickets are available at the registration table at the Dairy Queen show and the Glacier Rally in the Rockies show.
On Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. there will be a miniature golf tournament to benefit Flathead CARE, at Del’s Bar in Somers. Each round costs $5, and a portion of each round will go to support Flathead CARE’s youth programs. This tournament is open to the public.
Car and motorcycle registration costs $40 per vehicle, and includes registration for the parade, show and shine and one awards dinner ticket.
