Mission Valley tips Kootenai Valley in Western A Dist. baseball tourney

MISSOULA — The top seeded Mission Valley Mariners slipped by the Kootenai Valley Rangers on Friday in winners’ bracket play at the Western A District American Legion baseball tournament.

Kootenai Valley jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but the Mariners rebounded for a 10-9 victory.

Mission Valley has beaten Kootenai Valley four times this season.

Jack Humphreys, 2 for 3, had one RBI for the Mariners. Dalton Molzhon had two RBIs.

Nick Crawford struck out five and walked five batters in six innings to pick up the win.

The Rangers’ Bryton Guckenberg, 2 for 3, drove in run.

Kootenai Valley faces the Bitterroot Bucs in loser-out play today at noon.

Glacier eliminated Kalispell in loser-out play Friday, winning 8-5.

The tournament winds up Sunday with the top two teams advancing to state, which runs Aug. 1-6 in Great Falls.

Friday’s Libby vs. Missoula contest did not begin until 9 p.m.
