Whitefish Gallery Nights returns Aug. 2

| July 25, 2012 5:30 PM

Whitefish’s downtown art galleries will offer artist receptions and live music Aug. 2.

Whitefish Gallery Nights takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. in several Whitefish art galleries.

Following is a sampling of some of the artists that will be featured during the event and throughout the month of July. For a complete list of participating galleries and additional information, visit www.whitefishgallerynights.org.

The Walking Man Frame Shop and Gallery, 305 Baker Ave., will host Stephanie Barrett-Pointer and Mimi Werner. “Flowers, Buds and Buddha” will feature paintings by Barrett-Pointer and functional ceramics by Werner.

The gallery will also offer live music by cellist Lee Zimmerman and light refreshments. Call 863-ARTS or email thewalkingman@cyberport.net for more information.

The Purple Pomegranate, a fine craft specialty store, is featuring work by Kalispell artist Louise Barker. Barker’s perspective on “art to wear” incorporates unusual techniques that are organic and make a statement.

“We express ourselves by what we wear”: This statement has always been at the core of Barker’s art. Her involvement with fiber has evolved over the past 30 years, working in many facets of surface design. Her latest direction involves using metal to create imprints on fabric.

“I love seeing the unexpected results that happen when you cannot have complete control over a substance or process,” she said in a news release.

The Purple Pomegranate is located at 222 Central Ave. Visit www.purplepomegranate.com or call 862-7227 for more information.

Stumptown Art Studio, 145 Central Ave., features artist Charity Flowers’ exhibit,  “Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe.”

Flowers incorporates different media in her painting and sculptural work, including welding, ceramics and collage. She says that the use of many techniques gives her the freedom to use the materials needed to express an idea.

Flowers says her current body of work, “Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe,” is an expression of the adventure of childhood play and how it evolves as people grow into adulthood, “and playtime is lost indefinitely.”

“The adventures we have as children help to construct our identities and our awareness of our place in the world around us,” she said in a news release.

Jest Gallery, 305 E. Second St., will feature works by Whitefish artist Shawna Moore.

Moore was recently honored by her inclusion in the Missoula Art Museum Triennial. Jest Gallery will present her newest encaustic paintings, and Dan Dubuque will provide live music.
