Evertz, Guckenberg, Holder named All State

Three local baseball players were named to the American Legion Class A All State team on Tuesday. Kootenai Valley’s Bryton Guckenberg and Ryan Holder and Mission Valley’s Justin Evertz made the 21-person team. 

Evertz, who was named MVP of the state tournament, has gone 12-0 this season on the mound, and had a 1.38 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 13 innings at the state tournament, allowing just two hits.

Guckenberg led the Western A in batting average, hitting .462 for the season, and had a district high 15 home runs. The future Wisconsin-Stevens Point player also had two grand slams. This is the second straight year he has been named All State.

Holder, who will be attending Miles Community College in the fall, hit .451 this season with eight home runs, 60 RBIs, seven triples and 24 doubles, hitting for the cycle twice. He also pitched two no-hitters, going 11-1 on the mound with a 1.43 ERA and 137 strikeouts.

Mission Valley had six players named to the all conference team, leading all the squads. Aside from Evertz, Chris Clary, Jacob Young, Robbie Gauthier, Zeke Webster-Yaqui and Jack Humphreys represent the Mariners. The Libby battery of Micah Germany and Jared Winslow were also named all conference.
