Glacier Park plow crews near final snow obstacles
Glacier National Park snowplow crews continue to close in on Logan Pass and the Big Drift, the last major obstacle in clearing Going-to-the-Sun Road for summer traffic.
The west side crew has plowed down to pavement in the Oberlin Bend area just below Logan Pass; the east-side road crew is chiseling its way to the Big Drift just east of the pass.
Hikers and bikers can travel about 10 miles beyond the vehicle closure at Avalanche Creek to Bird Woman Falls Overlook.
On the east side, hikers and bikers can travel to Siyeh Bend, about two miles beyond the vehicle closure at Jackson Glacier Overlook.
Sun Road cannot open over Logan Pass prior to June 15 because of construction activity on both lanes of the road.
After that date, the opening of the entire length of Sun Road to vehicles depends on plowing progress, weather and preparation work on the road.
All other roads in the park are open, with the exception of the Inside North Fork Road between the Logging Creek Ranger Station and Fish Creek.
