Whitefish week is all about bikes

Whitefish celebrates its third annual Bikefish June 2 through June 7.

It’s a week dedicated to the bike and benefiting Fish Trails, the Whitefish pedestrian and bike path network.

Events include bike to work and school, children’s games, bike races, bike polo and more. All events are free to the public and open to all ages.

Saturday, June 2: The children’s bike parade and race will be held at Depot Park. Bike decorating begins at 9:30 a.m. The race begins at 10 a.m. A skills course also will be set up in the park.

Raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win an adult bike from Glacier Cyclery, a kids’ bike from Great Northern Cycles, a Stumptown ski pass, round of golf and lunch at the Whitefish Lake Golf Course or Whitefish Mountain alpine slide passes.

The cost is $5 per ticket or three for $10. Proceeds benefit maintenance of the bike/pedestrian trails.

At 11 a.m., the Race for Fish Trails begins at Depot Park. Round up a team to participate in this unique run through downtown where you work as a group to solve a puzzle and pick up valuable coupons at downtown merchants. To register and get more information, go to www.fishtrails.com.   

Tuesday, June 5: The Fat Tire Club will sponsor a fat tire ride. Meet at the downtown farmers’ market at 6:15 p.m..

 Wednesday, June 6: Play bike polo at 6 p.m. at the Central School fields. Polo equipment will be provided.

Thursday, June 7: The week’s activities conclude with a Vintage Bike Show at 6 p.m. at Glacier Cyclery. Bring your old bike and enjoy snacks and beverages.

Students are encouraged to ride their bikes to school June 4 to 7. Muffins and juice will be provided to participants.
