MISSOULA — Sunday was a long day for the Kalispell Lakers AA American Legion baseball team.

After a great day in their last outing on Wednesday, the Lakers fell 13-2 to the host Missoula Mavs.

“We left the ball over the plate too much and got behind hitters early in the count,” said Lakers coach Ryan Malmin.

Only eight of the 29 Mavs batters saw first pitch strikes.

Sean O’Connell was 2-for-3 with a double, but the rest of the Kalispell Lakers managed just three hits.

Dillon Matteson, Dillon Eaves and Kendrick Lee had one hit apiece.

“We were a little too anxious at the plate, didn’t have the approach we needed, based on what we saw on the mound,” Malmin said.

The Mavericks scored five runs in each of the second and third innings.

Sid Schenck took the loss for the Lakers.

Kalispell travels to Great Falls on Wednesday.
