Rangers, Twins split twinbill

EUREKA — The Kootenai Valley Rangers saw both ends of the American Legion baseball spectrum on Sunday.

The Rangers played about as bad as they’ve played all season in one game, then pretty much couldn’t do anything wrong in a second as they split a twinbill with the visiting Glacier Twins A.

Glacier won the first game 9-6, but the Rangers (12-7, 1-1) claimed the second 11-1.

“It was a good, bad and ugly day,” said Rangers coach Brent Holder.

Eureka committed six errors in the first game.

“We just kept booting the ball all over the field. We just didn’t make simple plays,” he said.

On top of that, they stranded 14 runners in scoring position.

But the second game was a very different story as Kootenai Valley’s Ryan Holder recorded 14 strikeouts, gave up no hits and walked two.

In addition to that, he hit two home runs in that game, including a two-run walkoff homer in the bottom of the sixth.

“He had a great day,” Brent Holder said.

Lucas Lee led Glacier at the plate in the first game, batting 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBI.

Dalton Smith was 2-for-4 for Eureka in that game.

In the second game, Holder was 2-for-3 with two homers and four RBI and Bryton Guckenberg was 1-for-4 with a solo homer.

The Rangers are off now until next weekend when they play host to the Bitterroot Bucs on Saturday and the Missoula Mavs on Sunday.
