A Kalispell man was arrested on a felony assault charge Sunday after a hospital nurse told police about a 54-year-old woman being treated for knife wounds in the emergency room.

David J. Carr, 51, was arrested, according to the Kalispell Police Department.

The nurse at Kalispell Regional Medical Center reported the suspected assault at about 3 a.m. Sunday.

The woman being treated told police that she was asleep when Carr, her ex-boyfriend, entered her lower west side apartment. Carr then allegedly held a knife to her throat, threatening to kill her and then kill himself.

The woman told police she was able to convince Carr to let her go after nearly an hour. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

After speaking with the woman, police went to the apartment complex where she and Carr live in separate apartments.

At the woman’s apartment, police found signs that an assault occurred there.

Officers then attempted to contact Carr at his apartment, but he did not answer. After conferring with the Flathead County Attorney’s Office, police entered the apartment and found Carr lying on a couch. He was taken into custody without incident.

Carr is being held for felony assault with a weapon and an unrelated warrant. Additional charges will be determined by the Flathead County Attorney’s Office.
