Lakers earn split in Great Falls

| June 6, 2012 11:51 PM

The Kalispell Lakers AA split a road series with the Great Falls Chargers on Wednesday, bouncing back from a rough first game to take the nightcap.

The Lakers were in a close game with the Chargers in the opener, trailing just 5-3 after the fifth inning, but fell apart in the bottom of the sixth to lose 12-3. Adam Frandsen hit 2 for 3 in the game and batted in two runs.

It was Frandsen’s bat that opened up the game in the second, hitting a double in the top of the fourth inning that scored the first of three runs in the frame. The Lakers would score three more runs in the sixth inning and hold off a late rally by the Chargers to claim a 6-4 win. Dillon Eaves picked up the win on the mound.

“I thought our kids came back and competed well in the second game to get the split,” Lakers coach Ryan Malmin said. “We had a lot of gutsy performances.”

The Lakers next game is Sunday in a non-conference doubleheader at Mission Valley.
