EUREKA —Kootenai Valley split a series with the Bitterroot Bucs on Saturday, picking up a conference win in the process.

The Rangers took the first game of the doubleheader, scoring four runs in the first two innings on the way to a 5-3 win. Ryan Holder picked up his fifth win of the series from the mound and hit a home run and had two RBIs at the plate to complete a fantastic game.

In the second game, a couple of late errors doomed the Rangers as they lost the nightcap 5-3.

“It was two good games,” Kootenai Valley coach Brent Holder said. “They were one of the better teams we’ve played all year. It’s good to get a conference split.”

The Rangers have another doubleheader today, hosting the Missoula Mavs for a pair of conference games.

LIBBY — Libby took the long road but earned a sweep of the Missoula Mavs on Saturday.

The Loggers were down four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of the opener and had their first two batters strike out before rallying for five runs and a 14-13 win.

Jared Winslow smacked a three-run home run and Nick Robertson capped the rally with a double three batters later.

“We’ve had some rough patches in games this year,” Libby coach Kelly Morford said. “That was big for us to be able to bow our neck and come back.”

The Loggers’ win in the nightcap was much more conventional, scoring five runs in the first three innings and winning 6-0.

“It was a bit more by the book, but it was a good game,” Morford said.

The Loggers host a conference doubleheader against the Bitterroot Bucs today.
