Mission Valley takes 2 from Libby
LIBBY — Solid pitching by Justin Evertz and Nick Crawford and the big bats of Jack Humphreys and Mike Bournstein carried the Mission Valley Mariners to a doubleheader sweep of the Libby Loggers (11-13 overall, 4-4 league) on Tuesday in Class A American Legion baseball.
Evertz fanned 10 and allowed five hits in a 9-3 victory, while Crawford limited the Loggers to three hits and struck out six in a 6-0 win.
“Both pitched really good ballgames for them,” Libby coach Kelly Morford said of Evertz and Crawford.
“We couldn’t get anything going offensively.”
Humphreys went 2-for-4 and drove in a run and Bournstein was 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the 9-3 triumph.
Humphreys was 2-for-4 in the other contest and Bournstein went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Libby had three errors in each game.
“We made too many mistakes defensively to compete with a good team like that,” Morford said.
Mission Valley heads to Dillon on Thursday for the Maybelle Arthur Tournament.
Libby plays at the Glacier Twins on Thursday.
