| June 20, 2012 9:13 PM

Glenyce Krogstad, 93, passed away at home on Sunday, June 17, 2012.

She was born in Newport, Minn., on July 24, 1918, to James and Nora Bergmann. They lived in International Falls, Minn., for a few years before moving to Kalispell when her father was transferred to Kalispell by the Great Northern Railroad.

At Flathead County High School, Glenyce was the first Bravette to earn a high school script letter "F," in 1936. Basketball was her main sport and she was captain of the all-star basketball team. She also participated in volleyball, baseball, tumbling and hiking. The School District offered Glenyce a job teaching physical education if she would get teacher training in the summer, but during the Depression she worked to help her family.

When World War II began, Glenyce worked at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

She married Archie Krogstad on her birthday, July 24, 1942. He was a soldier in the Pacific during World War II. When he returned to Kalispell they built a home near the Stillwater River. They had four children, Nancy, Jim, Randi and Terry. Glenyce stayed at home to take care of them until she returned to work in the early 1960s. She was the office manager at Consolidated Freight for 21 years, retiring in 1985.

Glenyce enjoyed gardening, traveling, and her genealogy hobby which took her as far as Scotland to find places where ancestors lived. She was also active in the Epworth United Methodist Church, the Genealogy Society and the Flathead Democratic Women. She was chosen as the Region One Democratic Woman of the Year in 2004.

Glenyce was a wonderful mother and her children were fortunate to have her live to the age of 93.

Glenyce was preceded in death by her husband, Archie; brothers, Walter, Phil and Wallace; sister, Margaret; and grandson, Christopher Sutton.

She is survived by her sister, Pat Plumb; daughter, Nancy, and Joe Crabtree; son, Jim Krogstad; daughter, Randi Krogstad, and husband, Stephen Sutton; and son, Terry, and wife Bobbie Krogstad; her grandchildren, Jennifer Crabtree, Scott and wife Amandine Crabtree, Elizabeth Sutton, Megan and husband Chris Steen, and Amanda Krogstad; a special sister-in-law, Mary Jane Bergmann; and many nephews and nieces. She enjoyed her four great-grandchildren, Lilia and Violette Crabtree, Colten Marrone and Hadley Steen. She was looking forward to the birthday she shared with Lilia on July 24.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday June 23, at Epworth United Methodist Church.
