With Monday’s filing deadline nearing for the June 5 primary election, several more people have filed for offices representing Flathead County or Montana.

Diane Smith of Whitefish filed as a Democrat for the U.S. House of Representatives seat being vacated by Republican Denny Rehberg, who is running for the U.S. Senate.

Smith is one of six Democrats to file so far for the House seat.

In legislative races:

Shawn Guymon of Kalispell filed as a Libertarian for Montana House District 3.

Rollan Roberts II of Whitefish filed as a Republican candidate in Senate District 3.

Cheryl Wolfe of Polson filed as a member of the Green Party for the Montana Senate District 6 seat.

At the county level, Bruce Fredrickson of Kalispell filed for district judge in Department 2. The position is currently held by Judge Kitty Curtis, who is retiring at the end of her term.

The deadline is 5 p.m. Monday to file for state and local offices.

Separately, the filing period for Flathead County special district board openings closed Feb. 23. Only one district has a contested race, county elections department Supervisor Monica Eisenzimer said.

Bill Brass and James Dragon have filed for a three-year seat on the Somers Fire District board.

Voters in the Somers Fire District will receive mail ballots sometime after the April 9 voter registration deadline for special districts.

The ballots will include information about when and where voters must return their ballots, Eisenzimer said.

As near as possible to May 8 — election day for special elections — the Flathead County commissioners are expected to declare unopposed candidates for special districts winners by acclamation, Eisenzimer said. Commissioners must appoint people to any boards where no one filed for office.

The Lakeside Community Council is seeking applicants for a position that comes open May 31.

People interested in being appointed to that council should submit letters of interest and their reasons for wanting to be appointed to the council at P.O. Box 157, Lakeside 59922 or by email to LakesideCommunityCouncil@bresnan.net before May 29.
