A Kalispell Middle School team won $600 for its school through a “Focus on Health” contest.

The eighth-grade team won second place and was voted as the people’s choice award winner among 15 entries from across the state.

The contest, hosted by the Office of Public Instruction, was open to students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Students were asked to demonstrate positive examples of healthy changes and practices in their schools.

Kalispell Middle School filmmakers explored positive changes in their cafeteria such as a new salad bar.

They highlighted their school’s widespread support of physical activity through exercise that implements a climbing wall and spinning bikes.

The video features interviews with P.E./health teacher Noah Couser, Activity Director Dallas Stuker and Kalispell Public Schools Food Services Director Jennifer Montague.

The video will be featured at statewide conferences and at www.opi.mt.gov under the Montana Team Nutrition section.

The KMS production crew included Couser, Izzy Martin, Wyatt Dykhuizen, Tad Harnett, Kendall Chouinard, Trista Pemberton, Colin Cassidy and Toth Mendius.
