A public memorial service for Jim Dupont, Flathead County commissioner and former sheriff, is at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Christian Center in Kalispell.

Dupont, 65, died Monday morning of a heart attack while he was getting ready for work.

At the request of Dupont’s family, the service will be led by current Sheriff Chuck Curry and former Kalispell Police Chief Frank Garner.

“I think there’s going to be a huge number of people that want to attend this, from the law enforcement community as well,” Curry said.

“Jim had a lot of friends in the greater law enforcement community, not just in the valley, but certainly in the state of Montana, regionally and nationally as well.”

Curry said he has received many requests for information about the service from all over the country and even from as far away as Belgium.

Further details about the service, which is open to the public, are yet to be determined.

Dupont, a U.S. Navy veteran, served four terms as sheriff and was in his first term as a county commissioner at the time of his death.
