Dancers to perform 2 ballets at show

| May 3, 2012 3:01 PM

Northwest Ballet Co. will bring comedy and tragedy, classical and contemporary stories, and laughter and tears to the stage Mother’s Day weekend during its 32nd annual Spring Show Production.

The dance company is performing “Coppelia” and “Phantom of the Opera” in Bigfork that weekend.

"Coppelia" is a comic ballet that was first performed in Paris in 1870. It is based off a story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, whose tale, "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" inspired the story of "The Nutcracker."

"The Phantom of the Opera" will be the other portion of the weekend's performances, and company Director Marisa Roth has choreographed truly classical ballet technique inspired by the most familiar songs, while continuing to follow the story line.

Shows take place at the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts.

Performances are 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, May 12, and 4 p.m. Sunday, May 13.

Tickets for reserved seating are available from now until show days at the Northwest Ballet Co. exclusive ticket outlet, The Bookshelf, located on First & Main in Kalispell, or by calling the company at 756-2665.

On show days, tickets will be available at the box office one hour before the performances start.

Prices are $18 for adults and $13 for children ages 12 and under.

Any questions may be directed to Northwest Ballet at 755-0760.
