Folk band plays at the Dwelling Place

| May 9, 2012 8:15 PM

A Washington-based band is the next scheduled performance in the Montana Radio Cafe music series.

The Blackberry Bushes Stringband will take the stage Friday west of Kalispell. The show starts at 8 p.m.; doors open at 7 p.m.

The Olympia, Wash.-based band takes bluegrass instrumentation, adds American folk music and influences from bluegrass, Appalachian old-time, indie rock, jazz and pop to create its unique sound.

“Virtuosic musicianship, compelling arrangements, quick wit, flying tempos and heavy heel-boot dancing are all elements of a live show that is joyous and vibrant with an intention to move the audience in their hearts and out of their seats,” the band’s biography says.

The Bushes’ debut studio album, “Little Bit of Grace” released in 2010, spent more than six weeks on the Roots Radio Report International Bluegrass Chart for Independent Radio, topping out at No. 19, and was one of the only self-released albums to appear on that chart during that time.

The band includes vocalist and guitarist Jes Raymond, banjo player Kendl Winter, fiddler Jakob Breitbach, bassist Joe Capoccia and mandolin player Jack Dwyer.

Tickets for Friday’s concert are $12 and are available at Colter Coffee, the Kalispell Grand Hotel and Rocky Mountain Outfitter. Tickets will also be available at the door.

The show takes place at the Dwelling Place event center, 1694 Whalebone Drive (2.5 miles west of the Flathead County Fairgrounds). Follow the concert signs.
