Glacier High orchestra students to perform

| May 9, 2012 8:45 PM

The Glacier High School orchestras will present their annual Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 14, in the Glacier High performance hall.

The concert will feature the high school’s Concert and Chamber orchestras in a celebration of music and seniors. The show will feature a number of pieces reflecting a variety of styles from Barrage to Bloch. Both orchestras recently performed at the District Music Festival held in Kalispell in April; they will be performing those pieces as well as other selections.

Highlighting the concert is a celebration of the senior orchestra members. Senior Brianna Larson, Glacier Chamber Orchestra concertmaster, will perform Accolay’s “Concerto in A Minor.”

Larson has been a member of the orchestra program in Kalispell Public Schools since the sixth grade. She has held the position of concertmaster for the past two years.

During her time as a Glacier Chamber Orchestra member, she has participated in District and State music festivals, preparing solos and ensembles, and regularly receiving superior ratings. Larson was also a member of the 2010 and 2011 Montana All State Orchestras.

In addition to her participation in music at Glacier High, Larson is heavily involved on both the speech and debate team and the drama department. Academically, she has maintained a 4.0 grade-point average throughout high school.

In the fall, she plans to attend Flathead Valley Community College and work toward a degree in criminal justice. She hopes to intern with the Kalispell Police Department.

Other seniors who will be honored at the concert include Toni Braig, Katie Larson, Bryar Teter and Allison Woodruff.

Orchestra members who performed at the District and State music festivals will be recognized as well, along with those who earned their orchestra letters

The concert is under the direction of Sherry Simmons and is free and open to the public.
