County road to get new pavement

About a mile of Star Meadows Road is expected to get an asphalt overlay later this summer with money coming from the Forest Service’s now-defunct Resource Advisory Council and Flathead County.

The county’s road department has been offered $68,630 from the Forest Service, providing the county will match that amount, county Public Works Director Dave Prunty said.

That $137,260 would pave just more than a mile of the county-maintained road that provides access to multiple points in the Flathead National Forest.

Federal funding for the Resource Advisory Council has dried up, Prunty said.

“This is likely the last such money we’ll get,” he said. “This is the last hurrah of RAC money.”

Exactly when the funding will be awarded isn’t certain, Prunty said, but it will come this construction season. His intention is to have the paving completed this summer.
