The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals Service are reaching out to residents for help finding a noncompliant sex offender believed to be in the area.

The agencies are looking for 61-year-old Dale Hanson, for whom a bench warrant has been issued on a charge of failing to register as a sex offender.

Hanson, who was last known to be in Flathead County in September 2009, was arrested in early 1994 for molesting two boys. The boys were 4 years old when the molestation, which lasted two years, started. He was sentenced to 10 years in jail and 10 years suspended.

He was released from the Montana State Prison in July 2005, but has not registered with the Sheriff’s Office or any other law enforcement agency since. An investigation turned up contact between Hanson and acquaintances where he said he will not register because he feels it would make him admit guilt.

Although Hanson has not been seen since 2009, authorities are concerned that family members may know where he is but are not sharing that information.

Anyone with any information on Hanson’s whereabouts should contact the sheriff’s office at 758-5585.
