Native Eyewear, a national company known for its sunglasses and polarized eyewear, has chosen Whitefish as one of five finalists to host the company’s next catalog shoot.

Whitefish is in the running with Salida and Telluride, Colo., Northeast Kingdom, Vt., and Asheville, N.C., for the Locals Only Project. Native Eyewear scoured 18 mountain towns across the country to come up with its five favorites.

“Help us choose a destination and we’ll descend on it to learn the story of the scene with the help of the natives who live there, share it in the form of videos, photos and a retailer catalog unlike any other,” the company’s Facebook page says.

Last year’s winner was Hood River, Ore.

The contest is playing out over Facebook, and the Whitefish Convention and Visitor Bureau put the word out Friday for people to log onto Native Eyewear’s Facebook page and say why they like Whitefish. Voters can read comments from everyone who has posted comments about Whitefish.
