Teens invited to performing arts camp

| May 30, 2012 7:30 PM

Teenagers will have an opportunity to participate in a performing arts workshop this summer.

The Share Your Voice Foundation’s Empowerment Through Performance Workshop is designed to help young people ages 13 to 17 gain confidence and learn to be comfortable in front of an audience. Through a unique mix of writing, performance, music and film, teens will learn to nurture their creativity, build self-esteem, develop communication and team-building skills and how to express themselves in positive ways.

Over the course of the six-day workshop, which will be offered locally July 16-21, participants work with professional educators and guest artists to develop on-stage awareness through movement classes, voice projection and performance preparation. They also explore songwriting and camera work.

This summer’s workshop culminates in “Night at the Landing,” a live performance for the local community created and performed by the workshop participants. The show will take place at 7 p.m. July 21 at Stillwater Landing north of Whitefish.

Full scholarships are provided for each participant.

Applications will be accepted through June 22. Since space is extremely limited, participants are encouraged to apply early.

The Share Your Voice Foundation is also seeking local businesses and organizations to sponsor the workshop. Cash donations, in-kind sponsorships and volunteers are needed.

Share Your Voice is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping young people — primarily disadvantaged teens in rural areas — through collaborative experiences such as the Empowerment Through Performance Workshop. The foundation was founded by film producer, writer and freelance director Karen Borger, and by Flathead resident and stage, screen and radio performer Jennifer Johnson-Bell.
