FORSYTH — The Bigfork Vikings overcame a 14-point deficit to beat Forsyth 21-20 in the Class B football quarterfinals Saturday.

The Vikings had a hard time running against sixth-ranked Forsyth’s tough defensive front, but quarterback Colter Trent had success through the air, completing 14 of 34 passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns.

“He showed a lot of poise today,” Bigfork coach Todd Emslie said of Trent.

“He got hit a lot and was able to keep his poise and compete.”

After allowing two touchtowns in the first quarter, seventh-ranked Bigfork (9-1) got on the board in the second when Trent connected with Chris Landon on a 6-yard touchdown pass.

The Vikings tied the score at 14 in the third quarter on a 5-yard touchdown run by Trent.

Forsyth (8-2) answered with a go-ahead touchdown, but Bigfork’s Austin Jordt blocked the extra-point attempt.

A 65-yard touchdown pass from Trent to Landon evened the score at 20 and Jordt converted the point after to give the Vikings their first lead, which held up as neither team scored in the fourth quarter.

“It was just a slugfest back-and-forth against a tough Forsyth team,” Emslie said.

“The kids just played four quarters.

“We came back and they just hung in there. It was a good test and a complete game.”

Bigfork running back Boyd Rieke finished with 51 yards on 21 carries.

Bigfork travels to second-ranked Malta (10-0) next weekend for the semifinals.

Malta eliminated the Vikings 42-0 in the quarterfinals last year.
