Photography presentation in Apgar
Tom J. Ulrich, a West Glacier photographer and author, is the next guest speaker in the Montana House and Glacier National Park Fund’s Look, Listen and Learn series.
Ulrich will present “Photographing in the Falkland Islands” at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Montana House in Apgar Village in Glacier National Park.
Ulrich spent six weeks in the Falkland Islands, located about 700 miles off the southern tip of Argentina. He sometimes lived with the locals but much of the time stayed in shacks near the bird colonies. This allowed him to photograph thousands of penguins, cormorants and albatrosses up close.
The program will run a little more than an hour and will include several hundred photos.
Ulrich has been a freelance and award-winning photographer since 1975. He is highly acclaimed around the world for his nature photography skills, with many of his photographs appearing in publications such as National Wildlife, Audubon and National Geographic.
He is also the author of seven nature books, including “Mammals of the Northern Rockies,” “Birds of the Northern Rockies,” “Once Upon a Frame” and “Photo Pantanal.”
For many years Ulrich has led tours to remote parts of the world, such as Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego, the Galapagos Islands, Costa Rica and East Africa. He also conducts photography seminars and workshops around the country and lectures at numerous institutions.
A reception will follow Ulrich’s presentation.
