Woman finds surprise in driveway

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a Montana 40 West resident in Columbia Falls who welcomed an unexpected guest after finding a woman passed out in a vehicle with Florida plates in the resident’s driveway. The resident banged on the window to wake the woman, who, while not very responsive, was not drunk.

The resident brought the woman, whom she believed to be Russian, inside. The woman was eventually picked up by her mother, and it was determined that she was involved in or present at a disturbance on Deer Trail earlier in the evening. The incident followed a report by a Deer Trail resident that her daughter had just driven away while visibly drunk.

A report of a child being bitten by a bobcat on U.S. 2 East in Hungry Horse that turned out to be unfounded led to a later call to authorities, when family members of the child got into a fight on Gladys Glen Road in Coram over Child and Family Services visiting because of the initial report.

Someone who desperately needed to wash clothes kicked in the door of a Willow Glen Drive home and stole laundry detergent.

A concerned skygazer on Rimini Road reported he had just seen a large explosion in the sky that made no noise with a vapor trail behind it over Bigfork.

A West Valley Drive resident reported her dog was shot in the shoulder with a .22-caliber gun. The woman told police the dogs do leave her property when she lets him out, and that the dog could have been chasing another animal at the time.

A Gray Hawk Court home was broken into and a bag of knives stolen. The resident believed her son, whom she had recently kicked out, was the culprit.

A thief who wanted to go places stole a passport on Gentry Way in Columbia Falls.

U.S. 2 East and Sleepy Hollow Drive residents reported hearing several shots fired in the same area.


The Whitefish Police Department received a report of a larger, more dangerous Winnie the Pooh after a bear was spotted in the area of Colorado Avenue, where it destroyed a bee hive.

A Somers Avenue woman reported another woman who lives two blocks away was harassing children on their way home from school and would cuss at and chase her as well.

An Alberta license plate reading “STONER” was stolen from a vehicle on Spokane Avenue.


An upset runner contacted the Columbia Falls Police Department after two dogs not on leashes jumped on her in a park and ripped her coat.

A 12th Avenue West resident received a shock, or rather was missing a shock, when she went outside to start her car and discovered someone had stolen her battery.

A woman was arrested by bail bondsmen on Ninth Street West.


Polson Police officers arrested a person for criminal contempt while investigating a report of partner or family member assault on Second Avenue East.


Montana Highway Patrol troopers arrested a person for possession of drugs with intent to sell while investigating a report of a vehicle theft on Airport Road.
