Salish actress stars in one-woman show

| November 21, 2012 5:30 PM

“Belief,” a one-woman play featuring Salish actress Julie Cajune, will premiere Dec. 7 at the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts.

The multidimensional performance is a unique mixture of interconnected Salish women’s stories, poetry and live music. Each story invites the audience to believe in one’s true self and to believe in magic and love.

Writer and actress Cajune and award-winning Salish writer Jennifer Finley-Greene collaborated on the script for “Belief.” Linda Grinde adapted the stories for stage and is director of the performance.

The journey through “Belief” is guided by original music from internationally acclaimed violinist Swil Kanim, world flutist Gary Stroutsos and Grammy-nominated composer and pianist David Lanz. A CD of the original soundtrack of the production will be made available for purchase.

The show starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Tickets are available by calling 837-4885 or emailing info@bigforktheater.org.

Ten percent of proceeds will go to Domestic Violence Education and Services (DOVES).

The production is presented by the HeartLines Project, which is dedicated to developing and researching tribally specific stories; Npustin, Cajune’s nonprofit offering educational opportunities to celebrate indigenous arts, history and culture; and KwKwsum Theater Project, which is cultivating American Indian theater workshops and staged readings on the Flathead Reservation.
