Two men injured in Libby knife fight
A drunken knife fight that may have included a gun being fired led to a response from Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies late Sunday night.
According to Undersheriff Brent Faulkner, several calls came in at about 10:31 p.m. reporting that some kind of fight had just taken place between at least two armed men around Kootenai Vista Drive in Libby and that at least one man was bleeding badly.
A pair of ambulances staged at the nearby Libby Christian Church while deputies and Libby police investigated.
Bryan Fischer, 53, and Nathaniel Ashmore, 34, both residents of the same trailer park, were found in separate trailers. Each was injured and “very much under the influence of alcohol.”
While Fischer, who was found at a neighbor’s trailer, had sustained minor knife wounds, Ashmore was found in his own trailer, bleeding profusely from major knife wounds.
Deputies determined that Fischer and Ashmore had fought in Fischer’s trailer, then both fled the scene. Gunshots appeared to have been fired during the fight, but neither man was shot.
Ashmore was transported to St. John’s Hospital for treatment while Fischer was detained by deputies and questioned at the Sheriff’s Office before later being released.
Detectives searched both men’s trailers and are still investigating the incident. No charges have yet been filed.
