Free admission to museum for reception

| November 28, 2012 5:30 PM

Admission is free to the Hockaday Museum of Art the evening of Dec. 7.

The museum, located at 302 Second Ave. E., Kalispell, will offer free admission from 5 to 9 p.m. in conjunction with the downtown Kalispell Art Walk event. The Hockaday will also celebrate its latest exhibition, Russell Chatham’s “Montana Landscape through the Seasons,” which opened Nov. 23.

Chatham’s Tonalist-style paintings focus on the landscape of the Big Sky State. His paintings include Missouri River headwater scenes and Yellowstone National Park. Chatham is fascinated by changing seasons and changing light, and the silent, spiritual aspects of landscape.

“Some people have described it as impressionism, but it isn’t,” he says of his work. “Not everything is life can or should be explained. Creating art is an attempt to search for something beyond ourselves.”
