Soccer roundup: Bigfork boys clinch playoff berth

COLUMBIA FALLS — The Bigfork boys soccer team clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2008, beating Columbia Falls 1-0 on Tuesday.

“I’m very happy for the boys,” Bigfork coach Keith Koslosky said.

Jorge Zavala headed in a ball that fell off the post in the 30th minute to carry the Vikings to the win. Kyle Thomson was given the assist.

“It was a big game for us,” Columbia Falls coach Peter Browne said. “We really needed the conference win. We came out a little flat, I guess it just wasn’t our night.”

Each team has one game left in its regular season. Bigfork will host Whitefish on Thursday and Columbia Falls hosts Polson on Saturday.

Josh Bray came up with a two goals and an assist to help Stillwater Christian by Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho.

Bray scored goals in the 22nd and 42 minutes to lead the Cougars in a rout. Julian Emond scored a goal and helped on two others.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Haley Purdy scored twice and assisted on another to help Columbia Falls past Bigfork, 4-0 on Tuesday.

Purdy assisted Alexi Corbett in the fifth minute to get the Wildkats on the board, then scored in the 17th and 51st minutes to put the match away. Danielle Delventhal also scored for the Kats in the shutout.

“It took us a litte while to get going,” Columbia Falls coach Greg Trenerry said. “The girls played good.”

Columbia Falls will host Polson in its regular season finale Saturday. Bigfork hosts Whitefish on Thursday.

Stillwater Christian 0, Bonner’s Ferry 0

Stillwater Christian fought to a draw with Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho. The Cougars had their chances but failed to convert.

“We set up several good opportunities to score, but Bonner’s Ferry’s keeper rose to challenge and shut us out,” Stillwater coach JR Hemp said.

Hemp said freshman Serena Koch had a standout game for the Cougars making several defensive stops.

Stillwater had beaten Bonner’s Ferry 3-0 in Idaho earlier this season.

Stillwater plays at Chrysalis on Saturday in its next match.
