Pink in Action activities scheduled

Several activities are planned as part of Kalispell Regional Healthcare’s Pink in Action Campaign during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

 A panel of experts will discuss research showing the increased risk of breast cancer among people who are overweight and how to reduce that risk will be held at 5:15 p.m. Oct. 10 at in the Buffalo Hill Conference Center. 

It also will be streamed live online at www.kalispellregional.org for those who cannot attend in person but would like to listen and submit questions.

Panel members include:

Breast surgical oncologist Melissa Hulvat, M.D.

One2One Weight Loss Program Coordinator Christy Ewing.

Registered dietitians Pat Dickey and Natalie Bucher.

Naturopath Lynn Troy.

Family practice physician Leah Carlburg, M.D.

Medical oncologist Elise Anderes, M.D.

• Journey to Wellness Physician Pam Roberts, M.D.

Those attending may also take advantage of free body composition analysis screenings before and after the discussion that show the portions of body weight attributed to muscle, fat, bone and other components. 

The discussion and livestream both are free.

Kalispell Regional Healthcare has scheduled “An Adventure in Culinary Wellness,” a series of four one-hour cooking classes during October with a focus on cancer-fighting foods.

Classes will be held from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. starting Tuesday, Oct. 9, in the Sunnyview Cafe at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

Each class will focus on a specific area:

Oct. 9 – Salts and Seasonings of Earth: Oils, fresh and dry herbs, broths and soups.

Oct. 16 – Intensify your Palate: Vinegar and wine, roasting and pickling vegetables, marinaras, dips.

Oct. 23 – Introduction to Fusion Cuisine: Brines, rubs, protein alternatives, curry, Pan-Asian fusion.

Oct. 30 – For the Chocoholic: Tempering, making cocoa, truffles, caramels and dipped fruits.
