Glacier National Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road will be closed to vehicle traffic at Jackson Glacier Overlook on the east side of the park as of midnight Sunday.

Logan Pass has been inaccessible from the west side since Sept. 16 to allow for accelerated construction activity beyond the gate at Avalanche Creek.

Hiker-biker access has been intermittent, depending on the nature of construction activity under way.

“Above Avalanche, a lot of the asphalt has been removed, so hikers and bikers should use caution in that area,” said Denise Germann, the park’s public affairs specialist.

On the east side, hiker-biker access will be unrestricted beyond the gate at Jackson Glacier Overlook, but the gate eventually will be moved east to Rising Sun as winter conditions develop.
