Jesse Bostrom scored a goal in both halves and Paxton Ellis added one for good measure as Helena High dropped Glacier 3-0 in Western AA soccer action Friday afternoon at Glacier High School.

Glacier (6-4-1) held a slight edge in shots on goal, 12-11.

Both teams had two corner kicks.

“Ryker (McIntyre) had a very solid game,” Glacier coach Ryan O’Rourke said.

“He made some nice saves for us.”

Helena keeper Anthony Starks also had five saves.

“Connor Brandon (sweeper) played a solid game,” O’Rourke said.

“We had some decent opportunities. Once again, a few breakdowns defensively.”

After Bostrom’s goal 15 minutes into play, O’Rourke said “we put our heads down. I expect our guys to respond a little better.”

Glacier wraps up regular-season play today at 10 a.m. hosting Helena Capital while Helena (8-2-1) plays at Flathead, also at 10 a.m.

Glacier has locked up the No. 3 seed in the league and will host Missoula Sentinel, the No. 6 seed, on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. for a state tournament play-in match.

GIRLS

Helena 1, Glacier 1

Glacier took an early lead on conference-leading Helena High, leaving the pitch with a draw.

The Wolfpack’s Anna Deleray crossed the ball to Kendall Halliburton, who scored six minutes into the match to give Glacier the early advantage. Helena answered a few minutes later on a deflection off the post from Layne Johnson to score the final goal.

“Overall, the girls played outstanding,” Glacier coach Brenden Byrd said. “Our midfield really stepped up, our defense held them to one goal and our offense stepped up when it counted.”

The Wolfpack host Helena Capital in the final match of the regular season at 10 a.m. today.
