COLUMBIA FALLS — After a second half scare, the Columbia Falls girls kept their season alive with two magnificent overtime goals to defeat Laurel 4-2 on Saturday in first round Class A playoff action.

Lindsay Strouse rocketed a goal past the Laurel keeper from 12 yards out in the first overtime session and Haley Purdy scored her second goal of the game on a beautiful cross from Danielle Delventhal in the second session to ice the game for the Wildkats.

“It was a tough game, they’re a tough team,” Columbia Falls coach Greg Trenerry said.

“I’m very happy with our team.”

The Wildkats got the advantage in the first half, with Delventhal connecting with Purdy in the 34th minute before scoring her own four minutes later.

“Our team came out and played really well in the first half,” Trenerry said.

“In the second half we played a little tentative. You can’t do that against a team like that.”

Laurel started to gain momentum after scoring on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute. Alexis Lewis tied the score for the Locomotives in the 69th.

Columbia Falls was able to get it going again, but not before needing the extra sessions.

“Our forwards (Purdy and Delventhal) both had a good game obviously and Lexi Corbett, even though she didn’t score, had a great game on the wing,” Trenerry said.

The Wildkats outshot Laurel 17-12 and goalkeeper Kira Kamrud made nine saves.

“Kira had at least four clutch saves that you’ve got to have in a game like that,” Trenerry said.

Columbia Falls will host Livingston in the semifinals on Saturday.
