AA soccer: Hellgate ends Braves' season with 4-0 win

MISSOULA — The Flathead boys soccer team’s season ended with a 4-0 loss to defending state champion Missoula Hellgate in a state tournament play-in game Tuesday.

Flathead (0-12-1) held the highest scoring team in Western AA to one goal in the first half, but Hellgate (10-2-1) put three past Flathead goalkeeper Clark Seaman after the break.

Kyle Higgins opened the scoring in the 12th minute, then added a second in the 47th. Reid Birgenheier netted Hellgate’s third goal in the 69th minute and Steen Shober tacked on a fourth in the 70th.

Hellgate outshot Flathead 22-3. Seaman finished with 13 saves.

Hellgate advances to the Class AA state tournament as the second seed from Western AA. The tournament will run Oct. 25-27 at Kidsports Complex in Kalispell.
