Open burning season begins

| October 18, 2012 6:30 PM

Open burning season began Thursday in Flathead County.

The county commissioners signed a resolution, effectively ending fire season 2012.

Flathead City-County Health Department officials remind the public that burners must call the ventilation hotline at 751-8144 for restrictions and must burn only clean, dry materials.

Burning manmade material is prohibited at any time, the county website notes. Burn only clean, dry materials, and don’t let poorly burning fires smolder. The county urges residents to compost leaves and grass clippings or take them to the landfill because they do not burn well.

A trade waste permit is required if the material to be burned consists of wood or wood products resulting from construction or the operation of any business, trade, industry or demolition.
