Two hunters OK after cold night out

A pair of hunters have returned home after being lost overnight in the area of Haskill Mountain.

A team of Flathead County Search and Rescue and Flathead County Sheriff’s Office personnel was scrambled around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning after concerned family members reported the men missing.

Flathead County Search and Rescue Coordinator Brian Heino said the men had told family members that they were going to the Kila and Haskill Mountain area, so the search team started by conducting a road search for their vehicle.

Just two hours after the search began, searchers found the two men on the road.

The pair had gotten turned around while walking the prior night and spent the night in a field. When the sun came up Tuesday morning, they were able to make their way back to the road

“They did a lot of things right,” Heino said. “They had supplies to hunker down and wait out the night and they told people where they were going.”
