A 44-year-old Columbia Falls man pleaded not guilty Thursday in Flathead District Court to what would be his fourth offense of driving under the influence.

According to a court document, Rodney Hoerner was involved in a two-vehicle crash on Oct. 2. A Kalispell police officer reported Hoerner smelled of alcohol, slurred his speech and had glassy eyes before allegedly admitting to the officer that he had been drinking.

Hoerner failed a field sobriety test and later refused to complete a breath alcohol test.

His prior convictions for drunk driving came in November 1992, September 2008 and January 2011.

If convicted, Hoerner faces up to five years in prison and a fine of between $1,000 and $10,000.

His next hearing is scheduled for Dec. 5.
