Contra dance season kicks off Saturday

| October 31, 2012 6:30 PM

The contra dance season kicks off Saturday at the Kalispell Senior Center.

Contra dancing is New England-style folk dancing to live music of Celtic jigs and reels done in long lines or a continuous circle of partners. Because it is a lively mixer with everyone dancing with one another, a partner is not required.

All dance abilities are welcomed, with lessons beginning at 7:30 p.m. Each dance throughout the evening, which wraps up at 10:30 p.m., begins with a walk-through.

Everyone age 10 and older is encouraged to join in. Contra dancing is family friendly; no smoking or drinking is allowed.

Participants are encouraged to bring snacks to share during the break.

Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for high school and college students or $18 for families.

This month’s music is provided by Left Side Brains. Kathy Neff is the caller.

The senior center is located at 403 Second Ave. W.

The dances is sponsored by Flathead Contra Dancers and Kalispell Parks and Recreation. For more information, call Sherry at 261-2029 or Joe at 752-7469.
