Eckels plays weekly at Rising Sun Bistro

| October 31, 2012 7:00 PM

Local guitarist and teacher Steve Eckels will play a steady performance engagement at Rising Sun Bistro at 25 Second Ave. W. in Kalispell. The gig is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays at least through April.

Eckels will perform mostly original solo guitar pieces in the popular style.

He says he chose the Rising Sun because of its favorable acoustics and layout. Patrons wishing to see the performer have an unobstructed view, and those wishing a more private experience have protected seating.

Eckels also chose the Rising Sun because of the artistic interior decor and menu, which he said is a good mach for the classical-influenced music that he will be performing.

According to Eckels, Kalispell audiences have high standards in music based on their experience with high level school performing groups and with the music presented by the Glacier Symphony and Chorale and other performing groups. For this reason, he has been preparing a new repertoire for the last four years.

The new works are modeled after popular music from the 1960s through the present, and also modeled after classical guitar pieces by Fernando Sor, Tarrega, Albeniz and others. Eckels has performed the Segovia repertoire and American traditional music during the past two decades. The new repertoire reflects Eckels; current interest in youthfulness, contemplation and human potential.
