Kalispell boy's 911 call saves mom's life

K.C. Nouque, a 9-year-old Kalispell boy, is the hero of his household this week after making a call to his father and then a 911 call that most likely saved his mother’s life.
The boy’s mother, Christy, wasn’t feeling good most of last week. She went to the doctor’s office on Saturday and was prescribed a common antibiotic, his father Ken Nouque said.
Within a few minutes of taking the drug, she collapsed on the floor of their Appleway Drive apartment and didn’t get up.
K.C.’s father was not home at the time. The boy took quick action.
“My son called me and said, ‘Mommy’s not talking, daddy,’” Ken Nouque said. “I said hang up with me and call 911.”
And that’s exactly what K.C. did as Ken started rushing home.
In the meantime, EMTs from the Kalispell Fire Department arrived and rushed the woman to Kalispell Regional Medical Center for treatment.
K.C.’s mother had suffered an allergic reaction to the antibiotic and quickly went into anaphylactic shock, which can kill a person in short order. She since has made a full recovery.
“The doctor said if [K.C.] didn’t call 911 when he did, she wouldn’t be here today,” Ken Nouque said of his son’s actions.
“We’re just super proud of him and gave him a big hug. He’s a little hero and didn’t understand why.”
Nouque said that he had talked with K.C. previously about how to call 911.
“We’ve always said, ‘If there’s anything you can’t control or going wrong, grab the phone and call and they’ll come help.’ And that’s what he did.”
Kalispell Fire Chief Dave Dedman said K.C. did an impressive job of getting medical help to the scene for his mother.
“I think it’s awesome” Dedman said.
“To have a 9-year-old remember what he’s been taught. That’s one of the things we always talk about with fire prevention in the schools. And every once in a while it proves positive, where we have children who know how to call 911, what their address is and what’s wrong.”
