Loggers sweep Broncs in league volleyball

LIBBY — The Libby volleyball team rebounded from a tough loss on Thursday to sweep Frenchtown in three sets, 25-18, 25-21, 25-22.

“I was proud of them and pleased with the way they came out and played with a lot of energy,” Libby coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston said.

The Loggers played great defense in the game, totaling 46 digs in the short match, with Mahalah Wedel getting under a match-high 14.

“It’s fun to watch these kids play defense,” Ostrem-Johnston said. “They’re making some great plays on defense right now. That saved us quite a few times tonight.”

RONAN — Eureka dominated its way to a quick three-set win over Ronan, winning 25-15, 25-14, 25-17.

Cassidy Morgan had a team-high 13 digs and nine kills for Eureka.

RONAN — Bigfork lost in three sets to Ronan. The Maidens did better in each one, winning 25-22, 25-19, 25-15.

Corvallis 3, Whitefish 2

Whitefish 3, Hamilton 1

WHITEFISH — Whitefish got off to a slow start against Corvallis and it cost the Bulldogs as they lost in five sets, 25-16, 25-24, 23-25, 17-25, 15-9.

“Corvallis is really scrappy,” Whitefish coach Sarah Scott said. “They’re a great defensive team, they just picked everything up.”

Emily Sullivan picked up 13 kills and had four blocks for the Bulldogs. Baylee Tveidt had 17 digs.

Whitefish came out strong against Hamilton, beating the Broncs 25-7, 20-25, 25-23, 25-11.

“Overall, especially against Hamilton, our defense was incredible,” Scott said. “We were digging some hard hits and had lots of communication.”

COLUMBIA FALLS — Columbia Falls battled with Hamilton and Corvallis, but the Wildkats fell in both outings 3-1.

“They made a lot of progress in the right direction,” Columbia Falls coach Addy Connelly said of her players. “They worked hard today. Lots of close games. They didn’t let down and fought all the way through.”
