Playhouse holds auditions for 'Dreamcoat'
The Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theater invites students in grades two through 12 to audition Tuesday for the cast of the musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”
The biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to life in this musical parable.
Joseph, his father’s favorite son, is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams. When he is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged.
Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock ‘n’ roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless.
Auditions will be held at the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts at the following times Tuesday:
v 4 to 5 p.m. for students in second and third grades.
v 5 to 6:30 p.m. for students in grades four through seven.
v 6:30 to 8 p.m. for students in eighth through 12th grades.
This production calls for a large cast of around 50. It costs nothing to audition, but there is a $40 participation fee for those cast in the show.
Students should prepare a 30-second monologue or short selection from another play, poem or book. The theater group has several on its website available for download. Students should also plan to learn and sing something at the audition.
Would-be actors shouldn’t worry if they don’t have experience; materials will be available for them at the theater. Students should wear comfortable shoes they can move in, since they will be moving around the stage.
Youths not interested in stage work but who would like to be involved may be able to help with the production’s technical aspects, including set building, props, costumes, lights and sound. Parental and student assistance is welcome, and several scholarships are available.
